Max’s Diary-Style Journal Entry
June 12th — Karnak Temple, Luxor Today we visited the hypostyle hall of Karnak Temple, a location of immense architectural significance. We were accompanied by Aunt Genevieve, who is wise, quiet, and incredibly knowledgeable about archeological alignments. The temple walls were covered in brilliant hieroglyphs and massive columns that I tried to measure with my string. To mark my dedication to logical study, she quietly handed me a stunning golden scarab beetle to place into my rucksack.
"Look here, Max," Aunt Genevieve whispered, pointing her sharp pencil at a stone cartouche. "This alignment tracks the winter solstice."
Suddenly, a cloud passed over the sun and the shadows shifted, making the ruins look frightfully eerie. Tilly gasped and grabbed my sweater, giggling nervously in the dark corridors.
"Don't worry," she whispered, "if we get lost, we can just follow the alignment of Sir Bark-A-Lot’s tail!" It was a shockingly clever bit of geometric logic that actually made sense, which worried me more than the shadows.
Speaking of the dog, Sir Bark-A-Lot chose that exact moment to trip over an ancient stone drainage channel, causing a loud CLATTER that echoed through the sanctuary. He then began barking furiously at a stone carving of an ancient deity. Fortunately, I used my knowledge of the temple layout to guide everyone safely back to the central courtyard. I was an absolute brick.
This was proper archeological detective work.
Extremely educational.
Crumbs. I'm glad I checked the reference charts before leaving home.
Explorer’s Notes
OFFICIAL LOG: Column tracking and solstice alignment calculations.
Gift Acquired: Golden scarab beetle from Aunt Genevieve (a proper scholar's token).
Tilly's Sticky Mark: Found a smudge of baklava syrup on page 14 of my journal. She must have touched it while looking at my temple sketches.
