Max’s Diary-Style Journal Entry
June 16th — A Cheerful Nubian Village We rode camels beside the bright Nile River until we reached a village that looked exactly like a box of spilled paints. The houses were painted a most brilliant yellow and blue, shining beautifully under the warm desert sun. Great Aunt Scheherazade waved to us from a little outdoor café while soft music drifted through the narrow streets.
"Eee, look at those lovely houses! It's like a row of iced teacakes!" Granny Maple bustled ahead, waving her sun-hat.
The local children immediately took a liking to Sir Bark-A-Lot and tied a small, brightly patterned scarf around his neck, making him look rather grand. Great Aunt Scheherazade brought out a beautiful, ten-foot-long indigo silk turban to show us, but Sir Bark-A-Lot suddenly decided it was a dangerous intruder. He lunged, snatched the end of the silk fabric in his teeth, and bolted down the street like a furry rocket!
Tilly immediately began a major rumpus, giggling wildly and chasing after him with her mummy-fighting stick. She ran so fast and with such reckless abandon that she lost her footing near the orchard and somehow managed to climb straight up into a dusty old olive tree to get a better view!
"Max, look!" she shouted from the branches. "The blue turban is mapping the wind!"
I gasped. It was a completely accurate scientific observation of aerodynamic physics wrapped in absolute silliness. It worries me intensely how her brain works under that messy hair. I had to sprint after Sir Bark-A-Lot myself, use a small piece of dried meat as a clever bribe, and cautiously untangle the expensive indigo silk from his jaws before it was completely ruined. What a frightful muddle!
This village is remarkably bright.
Tilly is far too high up in that tree.
Crumbs. I need a proper sit-down after all this running.
Explorer’s Notes
OFFICIAL LOG: Tactical canine retrieval and aerial positioning of little sisters.
Local Treats: Sweet basbousa cake soaked in syrup (altogether scrumptious!).
Diary Status: Two sticky syrup thumbprints discovered on the cover. Tilly must have touched it before climbing the olive tree!
